The Staghorn Fern is native to tropical regions of Australia, Southeast Asia, and Africa – and therefore thrives in warm, humid environments. Their unique texture and frond shape gives them a dramatic and exotic look, sure to be the topic of conversation with anyone who appreciates houseplant horticulture!

This low-maintenance plant is a unique addition to any plant collection. In nature, staghorn ferns grow on other plants and trees rather than in soil, getting moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, and debris that collects around them.

Light Staghorn Ferns prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the fronds of the fern.

Water Allow your Staghorn Fern to drain completely before watering to prevent rot, and reduce watering during the winter. Water by soaking the entire plant or thoroughly watering the soil when the basal fronds (the brown fronds near the bottom of the plant) feel dry.

Pro Tip Staghorn Ferns have two different types of fronds: basal fronds and fertile fronds. The basal fronds grow towards the base of the plant and start green but eventually turn brown. Do not remove these fronds! They may look dead, but the basal fronds form an important protective layer that anchors the fern.
