Origins and Characteristics

Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the Sierra Orange Anthurium thrives in warm, humid environments, making it a perfect indoor companion. Its waxy, vibrant spathes (often mistaken for flowers) are actually modified leaves that protect the true, tiny flowers clustered on the central spadix. This unique structure contributes to its exotic and elegant appeal. With a moderate growth rate, it forms a lush, compact plant that is both beautiful and manageable.

Care Instructions

The Sierra Orange Anthurium is relatively easy to care for, rewarding you with its cheerful blooms when its needs are met.

Light: Place your Anthurium in a spot where it receives bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves and fade its vibrant blooms. A north or east-facing window is often ideal.

Watering: Water weekly or when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot. Anthuriums appreciate consistent moisture but do not like to sit in soggy soil. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months.

Temperature: As a tropical plant, the Sierra Orange Anthurium loves warmth and high humidity. Keep the plant in an area between 65-85ºF and avoid placing your anthurium near drafts. You can increase humidity by misting its leaves regularly, placing it near a humidifier, or setting its pot on a pebble tray filled with water (making sure the pot isn't sitting directly in the water).

Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Anthurium every 2-4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
