While many of the most popular flowers have origins in other countries, Sunflowers are native to the Americas. Cultivated since 3000 BCE, which is actually longer than the domestication of corn!

They are thought to be domesticated by Native Americans who would use them primarily as a source for edible seeds. In addition to its seeds, many other parts are used for a variety of uses. The seed and sprouts contain several nutrients and antioxidants, which can serve as a protective function for cellular damage.

Although Sunflowers are especially popular flowers for Fall, and are the astrological flower of Scorpio, they are well-loved as cheerful flowers for any season or occasion.
