BLOOMSYBOX FLOWER CENTER
Larkspur
Larkspur is a tall and colorful cottage garden plant that pairs well with other tall-growing flowers like roses and lupins. It comes in various colors, and single-flowered varieties are attractive to bees.
Commonly known as delphinium, is a striking addition to any cottage garden. It adds height and vibrant color to border displays and pairs beautifully with other tall-growing flowers such as roses, peonies, lupins, and verbascums. Larkspur flowers come in shades of blue, mauve, pink, white, and even red, and can be single or double, depending on the variety. The single-flowered varieties, in particular, are adored by bees.
To grow and care for larkspur, plant it in well-drained soil with full sun exposure. On heavy soils, aid drainage by adding grit to the planting hole. Protect emerging shoots from slugs in the spring, and stake them as soon as they start to grow. Weekly feeding with a high potash fertiliser will ensure robust growth and abundant blooms. After flowering, cut back the stems to encourage a second flush of blooms. In autumn, mulch the plant with well-rotted manure or leaf mould.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a beginner, larkspur is a perfect choice for adding vertical interest and pops of color to your garden.
