Alstroemeria

The twisted leaves and delicate blossoms of the Alstromeria represent friendship, support, and meaningful relationships.

With four to six blooms per stem, the Alstroemeria represents wealth, prosperity, and good fortune. They have also been used to symbolize friendship and mutual support. Some suggest that each of the six petals represents a different component of strong relationships: understanding, humor, patience, empathy, commitment, and respect.

The Alstroemeria blooms have a satin-like texture and are grown in various colors, including oranges, yellows, yellow-greens, red-purples, purple, and white. They are associated with the astrological symbol, Gemini. They do not have any fragrance, making them ideal for those who may struggle with seasonal allergies.

These Lilly-like flowers first originated in Chile and Brazil but were brought to Europe in the 18th century. The Alstroemeria is named for the Swedish botanist Baron Klas Van Alstroemer. He collected Alstroemeria seeds on a trip to Spain in 1783.
